Ruche Back is two different things front and back, and that is the point.
Across the front it is flat and smooth, one wide band from the forehead to above the ear, with no gathering at all. That is what keeps the hairline straight and stops any bulk showing under a scarf.
Behind the seam at the crown it changes completely: close rows of fine gathers that open out to make room. Hair sits back there instead of being pressed flat or pushed into an uneven lump, and the rounded shape that gives is where the Kuwaiti look comes from.
Most caps make you choose between room for your hair and a clean front. This one does not.
